How to Install Plugin in WordPress

In you can install plugin using 3 ways. These are:

  • plugin search.
  • Manually install plugin ZIP file through admin.
  • Manual install plugin ZIP file using FTP Manager.

plugin search

This is the simplest way to install a plugin, steps

1. In WP Admin left menu point mouse over the “Plugins” menu.

2. Now sub menus will appear under plugins menu click on “Add New” sub menu.

3. On the new page you will see “Featured” plugins with a search option, enter your plugin name or keyword in the search box.

4. Plugins will list related to your search keyword or name entered by you.

4. Find your required plugin in list and click on the “Install Now” button showing in plugin box.

6. After install you will see “Activate” button, Click on it.

7. After activate your plugin will be available to use.

8. Update/Configure plugin settings as required, use the help provided with the plugin to know more about the use of plugin.

Manually install plugin ZIP file through admin.

For this step, you should have a plugin zip file to upload using the admin panel. We recommended download a zip file from the WordPress.org plugin directory or Plugin provider site, Never download a plugin from an unknown source.

1. In WP Admin left menu point mouse over the “Plugins” menu.

2. Now sub menus will appear under plugins menu click on “Add New” sub menu.

3. On the new page you will see a button at the top of the page “Upload Plugin” click on it.

4. Now you will see a “Browse” field to select a file from your local computer.

5. Click on “Browse” field.

6. Select plugin zip file form your computer.

7. Now “Install” button will enable, Click on it.

8. After install you will see “Activate plugin” link.

9. Activate plugin and configure using plugin setting page.

Manual install plugin ZIP file using FTP Manager.

If you have a plugin zip file and facing a problem uploading through admin then you can also upload zip file using an FTP manager like FileZilla, CuteFTP

1. Extract/Unzip plugin file on your local computer.

2. Open FTP manger, read more about FTP setup.

3. Add your FTP login details and connect with your hosting account.

4. Select the folder where your site is installed, Mostly you will found under the public_html or www folder on the webserver, folder name can be different or the name of your domain.

5. Now open “wp-content” directory then open “plugins” directory.

6. Upload your plugin folder under plugins directory, Wait till complete upload.

7. Now go to your dashboard.

8. Point mouse on “Plugins” menu and click on “Installed Plugins”.

9. If all is well then in the list of installed plugins you will see the name of the plugin uploaded by you as an inactive plugin.

10. Click on activate link.

11. Once activated, configure the plugin settings and read plugin help or documentation to use.
